TEKW : Traditional, Ecological, Knowledge & Wisdom
TEKW is the Indo-European root word for “toxicology”; our principal area of business, but also stands for Traditional Ecological Knowledge and Wisdom; a core pillar of the philosophy at TEKW Consulting. From Indigenous community members to farmers, hunters, trappers and traditional land users, those connected to the land have precious knowledge on local ecosystem drivers and stressors; knowledge passed down to them from generation to generation. When seeking the answers to complex problems tied to the health and resilience of our ecosystems, we often rely solely on traditional western science methods, discounting the importance of traditional ecological knowledge and wisdom (TEKW). This knowledge is in fact extremely powerful in providing “real world” solutions to complex problems.
